1940's Dance Celebrates Return of World War
II Bombers to Oregon Coast
Oregon) – The Seaside Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a 1940’s
theme dinner dance at the American Legion Post 99, 1315 Broadway in Seaside,
Monday, June 11 from 6 to 10 p.m.
public is invited and guests are encouraged to dress in 1940’s styles
or military uniforms. Tickets are mock-ups of old War Ration Books and
are available at the Chamber office at 7 N. Roosevelt. Cost is $12 per
person and includes a raffle entry for a free flight for two on one of
the World War II Bombers at the Astoria Airport Open House on June 12.
Special guests for the evening will include the crews of
the Collings Foundation who will fly three World War II airplanes to Astoria
for the Astoria Airport Open House and the Air Station Astoria U.S. Coast
Guard Open House on June 12.
The planes are a B-24, B-25 and B –17. They will
be on display at the Astoria airport June 11 and 12, Noon to 5 p.m. and
June 12 8 a.m. to Noon. The public can tour the planes and purchase rides
in the aircraft. Cost for the rides will run from $325 to $425 per seat
depending on the aircraft selected.

Sprague, owner of Aviation Adventures, is a volunteer organizer for the
dance. “This is an opportunity for young people who don’t
remember the war to have a hands-on experience with history,” Sprague
said. “It will give them a better understanding of what the equipment
and conditions were like when America was fighting in a truly global conflict.”
