Flashback Malt Shoppe & Gifts. Ice cream and milk shakes are big attraction. Menu of sundaes is large and intriguing, with one scoop of their regular sundaes going for $2.50 and two scoops going for $3.50. Fancy sundaes are incarnations of banana splits, $4.50. 318 Broadway. (503) 738-6614.

Zinger's Homemade Ice Cream. Dive into scrumptious homemade ice cream - plus they make their own fudge. Of note is their take on chocolate with malted milk balls, powerful fresh fruit taste of the marionberry, mango or strawberry, using chunks of the real thing inside. Cannon Beach

Dooger's. Also in Seaside, Long Beach, Washington and Warrenton. Fairly inexpensive breakfasts. Lunch and dinner selections are enormous: $7 to $11, featuring a large array of former ocean-dwellers, 1371 S. Hemlock. (503) 436-2225.

Fultano's Pizza. Delivers to local hotels, and they feature slices for lunch. Usual standbys, as well as gourmet varieties. One selection features a distinctive sausage with mashed grapes for the sauce, providing a subtle, sweet tang. The sausage is spicy and zippy, making a nice balance to the slight sweetness. The must-try is their pasta (about $10). They have a homemade tomato sauce that stacks up against anything Europe could dish out. This is one stunning, mother-of-all sauces, and their penne pasta with meatballs is a seriously addictive dish. 200 N. Hemlock and Second Street. (503) 436-9717.

Manzanita

Left Coast Siesta. Tasty, inexpensive and innovative are the key words. Glorious enchiladas or burritos come stuffed with ingredients in an intriguing and unforgettable recipe that's a combo of spices, herbs and one spunky sauce. Tacos are much larger than you'll expect. Rockaway Beach

Rick’s Roadhouse Bar & Grille. Classy, w/ feel of a cozy, neighborhood bar you’d feel good about taking Grandma to. Gargantuan toasted sub sandwiches w/ gourmet touch, (all around $8). Coastal comfort foods such as large portions of halibut and chips, prawns and chips, chicken wings, etc. Burgers have some nifty new ideas (around $7). Blue Water Grill. One of best views on coast; outdoor dining. Large array of NW and coastal favorites. Classy pastas, steaks, chicken and seafood $12 to $25. Big burgers around $9. Bay City

Pacific Oyster. Famous family eatery, where the seafood practically gets shuffled from the sea straight into your mouth. Soups and salads include many seafood specialties, of course, including cioppino, chowders, crab Louie and cheese breads (from $3 to $14). Fish 'n' chips come in various incarnations, like oysters, halibut, cod, rock fish, prawns or chicken strips (about $8). Find seafood sandwiches with shrimp, tuna or crab, as well as burgers, around $9. Finally, a small but tempting selection of dinners includes pan fried oysters, fillets of salmon or halibut, sautéed scallops and other goodies around $12. 5150 Oyster Drive. (503) 377-2323.

Lincoln City

60's Café. Time warp back to the 60's in this family-oriented cutie. Burgers, milkshakes, grilled goodies and standard American sandwiches occupy the menu. Their burgers are fairly basic but sizable, with standbys like cheeseburgers, bacon cheeseburgers or patty melts coming in around $7.50. Chiliburger for $8, (which comes with cheese and onions), burgers with ham, egg and cheese, the Teriyaki Swiss or even a veggie burger. Village Market and Deli. Exceptional lunchtime cuisine mixed with wine bar atmosphere. Gourmet sandwiches with cutting edge culinary finesse. Appetizers like pate or Thai soup. Range $5 - $12. Café Stephanie. Legendary, lunches and outstanding breakfasts. Hot sandwiches around $7 for a full one and $3.95 for half. Cold sandwiches ($3.95 & $5.95) include delicacies in the ham, salami, roast beef and veggie categories. Intriguing fish taco recipe, and a turkey wrap that comes with a curried cucumber/mango slaw. Yachats

Landmark Restaurant & Lounge. Incredible view of bay. Some of the finest Italian cuisine in the state. Sauces are light, delicate and very subtle, yet with a tang that's potent but not overpowering. Other goodies include things like Halibut Fillet, Wild Salmon Fillet and Pacific Cod Fillet ($13.95 - $19.95) - all made from fish caught by local fishermen. Family friendly dining.
